Our kids have said,
“Our parents make friends even at Costco!”
Maybe I inherited it from my Dad-who-knew-no-stranger. But, I do know…I am naturally curious. I’m genuinely interested. And, I carry a sincere compassion to bring hope to anyone just by getting to know them – near or far.
How that actually looks is as unique as the people I meet. Rarely does it come easy. Nor is each encounter the same. But, encounters do come, therefore the spontaneous conversation picks up.
Our Costco friends turned out to be just that – friends. We were shopping for the same item, discussion ensued, and the rest is history. Other connections involved hosting strangers in our home for a meal, or a few months. Each time, we made a new friend, and we learned so much.
Some of our other favorite places where we spend time:
- FOCUS (Friends of Overseas Citizens and University Students)
- My Silver Cord
- Mission Connexion NW
- Compassion Connect
- The Pregnancy Resource Centers of Greater Portland
- Senior care centers
Grab a cup of tea, sit back and spend some time on My Front Porch. You are most welcome to contribute to the conversation. I’d love to hear your story from your Best Years, Beyond My Borders, or even your Senior Moments.
